UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING

TUESDAY, JULY 12, 2011

The meeting was called to order by the president, Arnold Martin, at 11:30 A.M.

Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Esther Nachimson, Jim Wells, Martin Kahn, Nell Anne Hunt, Anne Walther and Don McGee. Present, also, were Pat Andres and TLCA representative, Katherine Pennington.

Board members not present were: Charles Schmidt, Charles Hosler, Barland Sherrod, Barbara Hull, Jennifer Davis and Fred Odell. Committee chair not present were Margeaux Black.

Secretary, Esther Nachimson, reported the minutes for the months of March, April and June, 2011 have been posted to the internet. The minutes had been presented to the board for March and April on paper, as the secretary had ongoing computer problems and was unable to send or receive emails. The May minutes and the General Meeting minutes are under construction and will be presented for the August board meeting. Martin Kahn motioned that the minutes to the March, April and June meetings be approved as presented. Arnold Martin seconded the motion. The motion passed.

In the absence of the treasurer, Charles Hosler, Arnold called attention to the treasurer's report sent to all board members and on the back of the agenda sheet. Charles reported that we are nearing our yearly goal of 300 paid association members. A discussion followed regarding an outside comment that the treasurer's report reflected an anemic income. The board is aware that we have transferred funds to CD's and we always have on the books a minimum of 2 months operating monies. Martin Kahn motioned to accept the treasurer's report as presented. Don McGee seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Jim Wells had no report. The president asked that we all applaud Jim for his dedicated efforts in seeing that all UH residents with email addresses receive the special information disseminated to all Irving residents. Jim called to the boards attention the upsurge of coyote sightings in UH. They are killing cats and small dogs.

Charles Schmidt is on vacation and Arnold gave his report. We have received the notice from the city that community grant applications are being sent to all homeowners associations and will be due in late October. Board members are asked to submit ideas of options for our use of these funds that range from $250-1,500. Our grant this year of $250 was used for flags. Great Flag Caper applications have been sent to all HOA's.

Don Jensen is our most vocal advocate for all UH residents to participate in the Boy Scout's of America flag program. Ideas were discussed for a large flag display on our medians during the 4th of July.

Nell Anne Hunt thanked the board for our ongoing support of the Great Flag Caper. The organization received a $5,000.00 grant from Ebby Halliday Realtors. Because of the extra large number of attendees to the pot luck dinner held for the 18th year at Nell Anne's home, they are considering trying to locate a larger venue for this much looked forward to event for the coming years. As the 20th year is approaching, she is hoping to make it an even larger celebration. This year, the flags purchased were made sturdier and lent themselves better for a recycling effort. Many used electric drills and bits to plant the flags as the ground was so hard.

The “Sky's the Limit” event was very successful and Nell Anne was asked to see if we could do it again next year.

Arnold reported that the bike trail between Hwy 183 and Northgate on Carl Road has been scrapped. The cyclers were in harms way from all the huge trucks using that stretch of road.

The Park's Department let us know the bike trail is just about completed from the West Fork of the Trinity River to the East Fork in Coppell. Bikers will go under Hwy. 114 to Campion Trail, near the Abby.

Nell Anne and Katherine Pennington, board members for the new Uplift Education Charter Schools to be implemented in Irving. The first school will open in southern Irving in September and the next school will open in Las Colinas in September of 2012.

Ms. Pennington issued an invitation from the TLC headquarters inviting the UHAOH board to have lunch at their facility in the near future. Nolan Meek, an employee of TLC for over 10 years was recalled to duty to replace Sherry, who retired.

She stated they were receiving many requests for permission to install solar panels. TLC will approve applications on a case by case basis. Roofing signs should not be displayed in yards unless the roofing process is in progress.

A discussion followed concerning properties in UH that were looking shabby and not up to code. Several properties are on well traveled streets. The TLCA website, lascolinas.org can be accessed for information in regards to roofing concerns. No fees will be charged until August, so everyone is urged to submit their applications before this time.

Jim Wells said Anna Webb continues to work on our website and that it will be spectacular.

Anna Walther had no report.

Pat Andres announced Paul and Nancy Larmon, on 3205 Salinas Court were the April recipients of the Yard of the Month award. Pictures have already been taken an posted on our website. She urged everyone to drive by this beautiful home and see what a spectacular job this lovely couple has accomplished in renovating this property.

Don McGee, our first UHAOHf board president, presented the latest effort he is working on, historical and pictorial archives, of our community, University Hills. He is hoping that anyone who has old papers, pictures or artifacts pertaining to our history to contact him. We don't want anything to be lost.

Arnold suggested that he will bring this effort to the attention of Mary Higbie of The Irving Historical Society, in hopes that they will display some of Don's items. Pat Andres said she has been working on a nice books containing pictures of our resident's who have been YOM winners.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:09 P.M.

The next meeting of the UHAOH board will be on the first Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 11:30 A.M. Those wishing to eat are asked to arrive at 11:00. Because of the club renovation which will be underway, we do not know where in the building we will be meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson,

Secretary
