FOURTH OF JULY FLAG CAPER
The Great Flag Caper is happening again this year, its 15th anniversary. This year is also very special as the event is in honor of Pattie Schmidt and Dorothy Schulstad. Both of these ladies were outstanding citizens who dedicated themselves to the betterment of their community. Pattie and Dorothy will be missed by friends and neighbors alike as well as by the many volunteers for the Great Flag Caper each year.

The schedule for this year’s Flag Caper program was fixed at the kick-off meeting on May 25th. The children’s essay is due by June 25th and the flag planting will take place on July 1st through July 3rd. Anyone seeking more information or wishing to donate to this worthy cause may contact Nell Anne Hunt at 3704 Hidalgo.

TRUCK TRAFFIC

The officers of your association are most pleased with the co-operation being received from the City of Irving and from the Irving Police Department in response

to the observations made earlier this month about through traffic by large trucks on our connector streets, Rochelle and Northgate. Immediately IPD increased surveillance on these roads as some of you may have noticed. Also, the City of Irving installed NO TRUCK signs at the entrances to UH (Rochelle/Rte 114, Northgate/O’Connor, Rochelle/Wingren, and Northgate/Carl). With these signs in place IPD is now in position to issue tickets to 18-wheelers who might be

cutting through. Of course, the new signage will not eliminate unwarranted traffic by large trucks. But it is now clearly posted as an infraction and we should all be vigilant about any transgressors. If you observe any cut-throughs, please obtain as much detail as you can about the vehicle, its markings, the time of day,

direction, etc. and relay this information to Bob Kitzman.

SPRING FLING

Although Mother Nature poured down rain and blew some wind at the start, the storm was short-lived and everyone who attended this year’s Spring Fling considered it a success. The music, the food, the drink, the rides, the games, and all the good company were a great way to relax with your neighbors. Fred Odell wants to make it even better next year, so comments and suggestions are invited now while he’s compiling his dossier. You may also volunteer to help with next year’s event so please contact Fred at (972) 650-8035.
